A Sight for Sore Eyes
There is a look that flashes onto a face when someone sees a beloved face unexpectedly. You know the look -- it's all radiant smile and pleased surprise. In my world, such looks are confections for the soul, especially when they are bestowed on me. Such looks are pure pleasure and deliciousness, and everyone deserves to be looked at that way at least a few times in a lifetime.
I suspect there are not enough soldiers coming back from Iraq to faces like those. Faces that telegraph joy and relish at coming into view, at being safe and whole and back where one belongs.
I gave someone a look like that today. I wonder if it was transparent, if it was seen and appreciated for the affection it should have conveyed. I hope so.
