Why limit happy to an hour?

The COVID pandemic and resulting quarantining and working at home has given many of us a revelation in work/life balance. It also stole friend-time (or coworker time) and all the socialization that goes with that. A good friend of mine lives with her sister; they have a lovely, comfortable house in Decatur, Georgia, and they instituted a wonderful routine that I have adopted myself: the daily Home Happy Hour. It provides a welcome transition from work time to home time, and it allows a push of dinner to a later time as well, giving more productive time while the sun is still up -- and I'm still detoxing from the work day (e.g., need to find ways to expunge work stress and distractions).

It can be a spread or a small affair (based on my friend's feedback, more than two cheese is a holiday offering, but going full-bore with fun cheese and accoutrements is part of the fun). Here's a recent experience: BLOG_happy hour

FIVE cheese, a variety of crackers and bread, some fresh cherries, real honeycomb dripping with honey, and some delicious quince jelly from Lebanon. Paired with a few glasses of wine, it was stupendous and fun and a wonderful hour or two between work and the evening, and it was enjoyed outside in the breeze, with conversation and laughter.

We gave it two thumbs up, and I would recommend everyone give Home Happy Hour a try. It doesn't have to be every day, but if I am doing things right, I'm doing it more days than not. Why don't you join us and break up your day with a Home Happy Hour for you and yours. It's ... happy.
