AirB&B's First Law of Travel Commercial
(post 1 in a series)
Before the latest Dr. Strange movie, an AirB&B commercial ran: "The First Law of Travel."
Have you seen it? If it was clever enough to prompt me to write, you can view it here: AirB&B Commercial First Law of Travel
The dialogue from the ad:
At home, it’s dangerously easy to assume we are on top of things. Out in the world, you are reminded every moment that you’re not, and you can’t get to the bottom of things either.
The secret point of travel is to take a plunge, to venture into uncertainty, ambiguity, even fear. And it’s then, when you’re lost or uneasy or carried out of yourself, that you find out who you are.
And the one thing that I have learnt, is that transformation comes when I’m not in charge. And we're reminded of the first law of travel and therefore of life: you’re only as strong as your readiness to surrender.
I used to be an avid traveler. But not anymore.
There are many reasons for that change, but the posit in this advertisement was worth examination. Is one only as strong as one's readiness to surrender? It sounded so very Buddhist ... a recent Curiosity Object for me (sometimes CO's become Current Obsessions).
And what about transformation only happening when one is not in charge?
Advertisements are almost universally garbage, but this one provoked thought, and I'm still thinking. Come think with me and leave a comment with those thoughts.
