^ Cracking Up

I was reading Scott Carrier in an oldMother Jones magazine recently. He was in Burma, now Myanmar, back in 2006, and he was reporting about the regime there and howit stifles its citizens, but they keep on living anyhow. He was describingsitting down by the water and hearing a young man play music. And he wrote withsuch lyricism about how the music tore him apart and how the process ofreassembling himself took weeks. I was comforted by knowing that others outthere disintegrate easily in the face of unexpected pain and beauty.

Scott is a great writer, and his book Running After Antelope is worth reading.
