^ The Arrogant Majority

I will never get over how arrogant the“majority” can be. It doesn’t matter what the topic – whatever group hasmajority thinks the rule of the day is “Majority Rules,” and they cavalierly goon about their business.

Here’s what wrong with letting the Majoritymake unilateral decisions, especially involving Minorities. First of all, theMajority rarely has a clue about what life is like outside their Majority Bubble.Second of all, for some reason most Majority citizens can’t seem to evenpretend to contemplate the experience outside that Bubble. For instance, untilyou’ve been the only white person in a room full of black people, you can’tknow what it feels like to be isolated by your race. Another example: moststraight people blithely assign orientation to being a “choice,” even though itis highly unlikely any of them ever sat around contemplating orientation andthen concluded that they were, in fact, straight. It’s complete crap! In all mylife, I’ve never endured such blather as I hear about orientation and all thereasons why “homosexuals” are not the preferred role and “heterosexuals” are.

Here are some irrefutable facts. Notopinions or thoughts, but facts:

1)                 The world is overpopulated byHomo sapiens. Due to a lack of natural predators, they multiple far faster andwith more environmental impact than any other species on the planet. At thecurrent rate of reproduction, the planet population for humans could swell to12.8 billion by 2050 (http://www.overpopulation.org/faq.html).Most scientists and resource planners believe the tipping point starts around10 billion people.

2)                 Homosexuals do not procreatewithout intention and effort. Heterosexuals frequently accidentally procreate. It could be argued that from a stance of personal responsibility andsustainability, homosexuals are better citizens of the planet thanheterosexuals because their Replacement Factor is zero.

3)                 Scientific studies reveal thatsexual orientation is frequently a factor of genetics and/or pre-birthconditions. This effectively negates the argument of “choosing” one’sorientation.

Note: Given thetrend towards unsustainable overpopulation, an interesting theory posits thathomosexuality will continue to grow beyond the current estimate of 10-20% ofHomo sapiens population, as a natural foil to overpopulation. (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v445/n7124/full/445158b.html

What started my soap box about this was yetanother conversation about issues related to “faith” and the apparentlyrequisite religious bias toward all that are not within that protected “majority”of the “faithful.”  A "believer" told methat he did not accept the scientific studies pointing to orientation beingrooted in genetics or pre-birth conditions, that such studies “have an agenda.”THEN this "believer" tells me that while he “has seen with his own eyes” theagony of a fellow “believer” struggling with orientation issues, he thinks thatsuch things are endurable, and that as long as this other person struggles onand embraces “god’s plan” for him (which presumably is sex with a woman insidetheir definition of marriage), then he will be fine. (So many “believers” liketo say it’s just “human nature to be sinful,” and a homosexual orientation isjust another of those potential sins. So as long as the orientation isn’t“indulged,” then all can be okay. God’s personal version of “don’t ask, don’ttell,” I guess.)

The hubris of this mindset isstaggering. How convenient that view from his Majority High Horse must be! Hisgod chooses to give one of his children an attraction to same-sex relationships, but this is purportedly unallowable by the same god, so along with all theother sins his children are programmed for, this child has to endure not beingable to select a mate of his choosing, but one of GOD’S choosing. Unlike allthose more-blessed straight "believers," this poor chump has to fake it to makeit. Yikes.

I challenged this “believer” to put theshoe on the other foot. “Pretend for a moment,” I said, “that the world is ahomosexual one and that your god prefers that to heterosexuality. Everything isflipped, and now you are afflicted with a desire for women, when god’s plansays you should be with men. How are you going to live your life and be happy?”I got a blank look for a moment, and then I got this rich, oh-so-pat answer: “It’sjust one of god’s mysteries.”

How convenient!!! Another of god’smysteries! Let’s not even ask any more questions, because that is knowledgeonly god knows, and we shouldn’t want to know that, right? Just like we weren’tsupposed to find out the earth wasn’t really flat and germs cause disease notwitches or devils.

Frankly, I’m surprised I did notthrottle-choke this smug bastard.

Feeling completed and loved in arelationship with a same-sex partner is not immoral behaviour. It is not akinto drinking too much or taking drugs. It is not inherently irresponsible (anymore or less than having offspring indiscriminately via unprotected sexualintercourse in among heterosexuals is). If for one MOMENT these arrogant peoplewould attempt to imagine their lives as “The Other,” they might not feel sosure their way is the right way.

I think I’ve had just about enough of“exchanging ideas” with these looney tunes. I used to be afflicted with belief, but I pulled myself out of it and started thinking for myself and connectingdots and asking questions about loose-ends. I want others to be able to dothat, too. But I’m done trying to open minds that have never been open in thefirst place.

I’m DONE.
